Keeping Syrian Children Safe This Winter

Child Refugees Benefit From Lions SupportWe Help Those in War-Torn Syria

This winter, Lions Clubs across the UK have helped to keep thousands of Syrian children safe by raising funds for special Unicef items including blankets and tents. Now Uniecf has sent Lions a special thank you for their kindness.

Thanks to Lions and support from the public, over 1,600 children in war-torn Syria can continue their education. These children will get a chance to develop and play, stay safe from forced labour and sexual exploitation. Lions have also funded temporary schools so that more than 500 children have a safe place to learn and play.

To combat the cold, Lions have raised funds to cover the cost of 1,300 Unicef winter blankets, so children are kept warm throughout the bitter winter, which makes them more vulnerable to diseases such as pneumonia.

Merlyn Ooms, Officer, Public Fundraising Department, sent a letter of thanks, reading: “On behalf of Unicef, the children affected by the Syrian conflict and our brave colleagues working tirelessly to deliver life-saving supplies and services, thank you for your support.”
